S5-6/Staff: MOBILE PHONE/DRIVER DISTRACTION CAMPAIGN. On Wednesday 1 March 2017, the penalty for using a mobile phone or hand-held device whilst driving will double, increasing from £100 fine and 3 penalty points to £200 and 6 penalty points. Your licence will be revoked if you get 6 or more points within 2 years of passing your test.  Points on your provisional licence.  Any penalty points on your provisional licence that haven’t expired will be carried over to your full licence when you pass your test. However, your licence will be revoked if you get any further penalty points that take you up to a total of 6 or more within 2 years of passing your driving test.  If your licence is revoked within 2 years.  You’ll have to apply and pay for a new provisional licence and pass both theory and practical parts of the driving or riding test again to get a full licence.  Studies show that drivers using a hands-free or hand-held mobile phone are slower at recognising and reacting to hazards. Even careful drivers can be distracted by a call or text – and a split-second lapse in concentration could result in a crash.  Please drive safely and legally, if you are a passenger in a vehicle make sure the driver is driving safely and legally.  If you require further information please contact me.  PC Boyce
